You're Welcome Club celebrates human diversity in all its shapes and forms. The future is inclusive!
You're Welcome Club is created by Sam Hil Atalanta (they/them), an Amsterdam based illustrator.
Sam Hil: ‘Popular media often presents a narrow idea of what is considered “ideal” or “perfect.” These images usually feature thin or athletic bodies, are often white, and tend to reflect very specific expressions of femininity or masculinity. Many people don’t see themselves reflected in these images, even though they are shown to us as “the standard”.
Being constantly exposed to these “perfect” images can lead to feelings of insecurity or exclusion, especially since they often represent unrealistic and unattainable ideals. In contrast, seeing yourself represented can be deeply affirming: it reminds us that we are normal, that we belong, and that there is no one way to be or look.
You’re Welcome Club is an illustration project that celebrates diversity by portraying individuals with a wide range of body types, sexualities, gender identities, and backgrounds. Through this series, I aim to create space for recognition, especially for those who are not often represented. My hope is that people feel welcomed, included, and reassured that they belong.’
